Welcome to the Urbana website

Dharma Developments was thrilled to host Urbana, the hugely successful gala event benefiting the Alex Munter Charitable Foundation. The foundation supports local programs that prevent homelessness in Ottawa by helping people find and keep housing.

On Thursday March 24th, 2005 the generous support of Ottawa business leaders and attendees helped raise over $20,000 for the foundation. With a cocktail in hand, the sold out crowd enjoyed the lively ambience and spirited guest list including political MP’s and city councilors. Many talented artists within our community and supportive friends also came out to enjoy a celebratory long weekend martini and be seen at the hottest event in town.

The most poignant speech of the evening, however, was delivered by Jessica, a tenant at Daybreak. A cheque presentation was made by Alex Munter to Jessica for the amount of $1500, after which she spoke movingly about the impact of the agency, which provides supportive housing to people who have been homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Generous corporate supporters included Bill Renaud/Otten Realty Team, Gowlings Lafleur Henderson, William Scotsman, Tundra Semiconductor, and Uniglobe Premiere Travel. Their valued donations helped the event top $20,000 in proceeds to be distributed among local agencies such as Housing Help, Action Lodgement and Daybreak Non-Profit Shelter.

Artist photographer Matt Hopkins felt that his work was well-received. His gritty urban scenes from around Ottawa sparked many excited conversations about the intricacies of our world-class city. The silent auction showcased many local artistic talents, of which 12 prize packages were enthusiastically bid upon raising over $3000 in direct proceeds for the foundation.

The lively crowd of guests dissipated after the closing remarks by Alex Munter. Special thanks to our guests who spoke supportively for Urbana:

Mr. Bob Chiarelli, Mayor of the City of Ottawa
Mr. John Baird, Conservative MPP for Nepean-Carleton
Honourable Mr. Jim Watson, Minister of Consumer and Business Services
Honourable Mr. Ed Broadbent, NDP MP for Ottawa Centre
